March 17, 2026  ·  10 min read

Opus Clip and HaikuClip are both AI-powered tools that turn long videos into short clips. If you are trying to decide between them, this comparison covers what actually matters: clip quality, editor features, speed, and value for money.

What both tools do

Both tools take a long-form video or YouTube URL, use AI to find the best moments, and generate 9:16 clips ready to post on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Both use AI transcription. Both include some form of caption generation.

Clip detection quality

We tested both tools on the same set of 10 videos across different niches: podcast, business presentation, cooking tutorial, fitness coaching, and interview format.

HaikuClip consistently found hooks and high-energy moments. The scoring algorithm weighs multiple factors including audio energy, keyword density, sentence structure and position in the video. Results were relevant and usable in 8 out of 10 tests.

Opus Clip also produced good clips but showed a bias toward early-video content in longer recordings. In 4 of 10 tests, the best moments from the second half of long podcasts were underweighted.

Verdict

For most creators, HaikuClip offers more editor features at a significantly lower price point. The waveform editor and transcript view make it easier to produce precisely cut clips. Opus Clip has a more polished interface but charges a premium for features that are matched or exceeded by HaikuClip.

"If editor control and price matter to you, HaikuClip is the better choice. If you want a slightly more polished UI and are already embedded in the Opus ecosystem, that may justify the difference."
